Can YOU Help me with My Hearing?

I was wondering if you could help me?

You see, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”  To the Galatians, Paul posed this question –

“Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?”

There it is again – HEARING!

Jesus said,

“Therefore take heed how you hear. For whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he seems to have will be taken from him.”

So in a day in age where we most often equate discipleship with information transfer through books, seminars, one-on-one meetings, could you take a few minutes and help me improve my ability to hear what the Spirit is saying?

Oh, that reminds me. Isn’t that what John wrote to the seven churches in Revelations?

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”

Specifically, how do you know it is the Lord speaking to you and not just your imaginations or your conscience? How do you safeguard from being deceived? I think if we could all improve in this area, extraordinary things would happen.

“Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to YOU and works miracles AMONG YOU, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?”

“CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? Thanks for adding your comments below to help me improve my hearing!

In a cynical world it’s hard not to doubt when we think we have heard God! I’m working on practicing hearing as much as I can in the small things wanting His voice to be clearly distinguishable from all the other inputs coming my way, but I want for that confidence to KNOW that was God I just heard!

      Hi Hannah,

Thanks for your response. I totally agree. Jesus said that His sheep would know His voice and I trust that He knows what it’s going to take for me to hear. It seems to me there is a characteristic of LIFE when He speaks. In my own journey, if a series of thoughts are linear and sum to a conclusion without a lot of life, it’s just me but if thoughts come spontaneously with life, in line with Scripture and in line with His character, then I believe it’s the Lord. Just like we know the voice of those close to us (although we often fail to be able to describe what they’re like), as we walk on with the Lord, we’ll know His voice – and life will never be humdrum again.
